Much has been said and published about the Kumtor gold mining company for 16 years of its operation in Kyrgyzstan. It is ecologists and NGOs that are especially anxious. They curse the Kumtor management for the abuse of Petrova lake situated in the Tian Shan range very close to the mine. The lake is able to breach its banks any time and flood the area killing hundreds of people, and the mining company is said to encourage melting glaciers. If it happens, who will be responsible for the catastrophe?

"Mothers' tears" - this is the name of the monument opened by president Roza Otunbayeva in Osh on 10 of June when Kyrgyzstan commemorated the victims of the ethnic conflict that had taken place a year ago.
To be on time to participate in the event we, a group of journalists, are rushing in a car from the airport. We see ruins of destroyed cafes and burnt down shops both in the city centre and in the outskirts. For some reasons nobody clears up the debris. A very depressive scene! Militiamen are on every step. But where are the local inhabitants? Later we would find out that they were sitting at home or went to their relatives in the countryside for fear of possible unrest.
